About me

My name is Lorin D’Costa and I am a full time chess teacher based in Edgware, North London. I coach at various schools with children of all ages and abilities, as well as individuals (many whom have gone on to win national titles and represent England), and at the World and European Youth Championships as a national coach with the best young English chess talent.

2016 British Rapidplay Champion Scoring an unbeaten 9/11 points
One Grandmaster Norm (European Championships, Budva, Montenegro, March 2009)
2004 Winner of the International Ireland Bunratty Masters Open
Played for teams in the British, Belgian, French and Dutch Chess Leagues
Represented England at junior level on 6 occasions at World and European Youth Championships
British Under 13 and Under 14 Champion, Torquay 1998
London Junior Champion for Under 12,14,16,18 and 21 Age Categories
Record 4 Time Winner of the UK Schools Chess Challenge, the largest tournament in the world

Over 10 Years Experience teaching chess to both children and adults
I hold a clean DBS and am an ECF Accredited Coach.
I have also qualified for the International FIDE Trainers Title (August 2014).

Coached the England Women’s Team at the 43rd World Chess Olympiad in Batumi Georgia in October 2018 (20th position from 151 countries)
Also coached England Women’s Team at the European Team Championships in October 2019
Coached the Barbados National Teams at the 41st World Chess Olympiad in Tromso, Norway in August 2014
Official England Youth Team Coach at World and European events since 2010
Coached 2 pupils to top 5 placings at the World/European Under 8 Youth Championships in 2012, including Josh Altman who I appeared on Channel 4s ‘Child Genius’ programme with in 2013
